Olive and Bill were parents of one of my best high school friends who also became the bass player in my first band. Olive was a great cook who often invited me for a big Sunday breakfast with their family. Bill would almost always have his glasses taped together, a guitar in his hands and a rolly hanging out of his mouth. He could roll a cigarette with one hand while strumming the guitar or banjo with the other. It was Bill who took me on my first paid gig as a drummer – at the Lynn Valley Legion. Son, Bob, took me to California in exchange for this painting – looking back at it now I can see that it was very generous payment!
